Hello everyone, it's been suggested in "The Darkness Messengers" group on facebook that fans could attempt to get "Don't Let The Bells End" to UK Christmas number one this year. I'm up for it, and have actually been part of a group that got a song to number one once, so I know it's possible.
There was an attempt to get "I Am Santa" to Christmas number one last year, but it fell flat as they were only using streaming. When we got the other song to number one there were about 1200 of us, buying the song once a day every day (only once a day counts apparently) and we didn't use streaming at all.
Plus another reason I don't think it worked with "I Am Santa" is that we were all listening to the same playlist on spotify that only had that one song on it. I haven't had it confirmed as true, but I'm pretty sure spotify must have some kind of algorithm that detects this sort of thing. It would be smarter if we all made our own playlist and mixed the song in with other songs I think, to throw any algorithm.
If we're seriously going to do it we need to get at least 1000 people in the UK to be doing it too or it isn't worth it, thought I'd post over here too as I know a lot of people don't do facebook so you may not of even heard about this. It does feel like they were cheated the first time doesn't it? Personally it's not one of my favourites by them, but only because I'm a scrooge who hates Christmas songs, and it is such a good Christmas song. I tend to prefer the more sombre ones that question Christmas like Greg Lake's one.

Hi. I don't live in the UK, so obviously I can't help, but I just want to say this about the Spotify thing:

To my knowledge, if you listen to one song on repeat, it counts only as 1 stream. However, it counts as multiple stream in case you create a playlist with the song appearing several times, regardless of whether there are or aren't any other songs on the playlist. In other words, if you play DLTBE 100x on repeat, it's still only 1 stream. If you create a playlist with 100 DLTBEs, it is 100 streams.

 I know right? But I have seen it achieved in even more unlikely circumstances, the thing with that was it was being planned years in advance, and there was a group of over 1000 of us firmly committed to doing it.
I am sure it could work if we did start planning months in advance and got at least 1000 people to commit, as the sad truth nowadays is it's quite easy to get to number one now, you don't need to sell that many units compared to the past. In these days when you can go and stream music for free, or look it up on youtube 24/7 no one buys it anymore. So a relatively small group of people can throw the charts with very little manipulation.
So maybe if we started planning it now and aimed for next year we'd have more of a chance.
And Nerevanin thanks for clarifying that about spotify.

Oh if only it were possible....but sadly I too believe it has a one way ticket in hell's chance.

Wouldn't be averse to streaming it on a playlist though...in the run up to Xmas I'm always found to be listening to it anyway....anything to prevent yet another Cowell X-Fucter number 1.

It is a great track and I personally love it (I also like Greg Lake's one too btw) but to be absolutely honest, I felt 'I Am Santa' was poor by their standards and just based on that fact alone, I'm not surprised that initiative fell flat last year.

As for CT-DLTBE, any song that manages to sneak in the phrases BELL END and RING PIECE into it's lyrics deserves to have been at the very top imo! There I go again....talking about Simon Cow-bell!

Yes it did only get to number 2, because of the Gary Jules version of Mad World from the film Donnie Darko.

I liked I am Santa, but I agree it wasn't a patch on Don't The Bells End
