Just downloaded 'Southern Trains' - the latest track released free to download from the PledgeMusic site.

For those of you that wanted 'Solid Gold' to be a bit faster....then maybe this is your cup of tea?

Thoughts???

Pretty much what we heard live, no big surprises. A solid track, but the production, again, lets it down. At least the gang vocals in the chorus are strong, unlike Solid Gold. Chorus and the bridge are the best parts IMO. Solo is a little shreddy but not bad by any means. It does seem too short though, like they could have expanded on the bridge or the solo more.

OK, now I don't know which thread I should post in! :D

I haven't heard the live version of Southern Trains, so I can't compare it to the studio version. Anyway, out of the three tracks out so far, ST is probably the strongest one, that seems clear even after one listen, although I'll need more listens to decide what I actually think about the song.

EDIT: As Southern Trains got a music video, I suppose that it's te third single and that Why Don't The Beautiful Cry is cancelled as a single? :( Fingers crossed it's only postponed.

Parts of the main riff in this verse reminds me of the slow/quick sections heard within Roaring Waters (around 2.45 in the Roaring Waters track).

Sounds somewhat 'punkier' than anything from LOOK and I wonder just what influence Rufus has had on this album's overall feel? Maybe Emily had a much greater influence on the overall maturity and vibe of LOOK than I had previously considered she may have had at that time?

I don't really think such a thing as a "single" exists anymore. As far as I'm concerned, the concept of a single is dead.

Just because a song is available prior to the release of the album and has a music video doesn't make it a single in my eyes.

A single is a song that is pushed, and used to promote the band or the release.

I'd say Southern Trains is more of a teaser than a single.

There was no hype/build-up to it. If they wanted to push it as a single, they'd have made more of a fuss about it.

There was all that hype leading up to the ATPG video and the Solid Gold video. There wasn't that for Southern Trains.

I count it as a taster. Something to keep the fans happy. Not a single. :)

I wish they had played it in Brisbane when they were over earlier in the year. It would've made the gig better. I'd have this over Buccaneers!

As Luke said, it's not necessarily a single, the video is really a joke compared to ATPG and SG. I think it was just a teaser that they had the idea to throw together a silly video for.

Also, most albums don't have every single released before the full album. So I highly doubt the next single is cancelled.

It's probably the better of the other 2 that have already been released. Not a fan of the video but I'm not arsed to watch videos when I listen to songs.

The best I could do, with some help from TDA:

[Verse 1]
Air-con set to sub-Arctic
If it moves, it isn't quick

[Pre-chorus]
Major delays, cancellations
Tedious conversations
Trying to eat your dinner with an ass in your face
It's a disgrace

[Chorus]
It's a journey into pure despair
There are fucking assholes everywhere
I can smell piss and shit in the air
Fuck you, southern trains, we're not getting anywhere

[Verse 2]
Journey into pure despair
I just want to get somewhere

[Pre-chorus]
Throw away the itinerary
And hold that race in one place, stationary
On your marks, get set, start this
Southern trains atone

[Chorus]
It's a journey into pure despair
There are fucking assholes everywhere
I can smell piss and shit in the air
Fuck you, southern trains, we're not getting anywhere

[Bridge]
Them southern trains
Choo-choo
Boo-hoo
Them southern trains
Choo-choo
Boo-hoo

[Solo]

[Pre-chorus]
Heaving carriages of indignation
Grown men weeping of pure frustration
Totally packed and always late
???

[Chorus]
It's a journey into pure despair (Got me on the rails)
There are fucking assholes everywhere (This steam-age nightmare)
I can smell piss and shit in the air (Slower than snails)
Fuck you, southern trains, we're not getting anywhere

^^^Thank you! :)

I've always thought that the first line of the chorus is "it's not journey, it's a pure despair", but listening to the song, I think that you are right. :)

Very relatable lyrics, btw, now I know which song I will hum while taking trains in my country. :D
